Via Claudia Augusta: Cycling in the Footsteps of the Romans
The Via Claudia was built 2,000 years ago and runs through South Tyrol from the Reschen Pass, through the Vinschgau Valley, all the way to Algund, continuing on to Meran and through the Etschtal Valley to Bozen and further south. The route offers varied landscapes, passing by meadows, forests, lakes, castles, and palaces.
Algund is an ideal starting point for a cycling trip on the Via Claudia Augusta. In Algund, you can also visit the old bridgehead of the Via Claudia Augusta, which once crossed the Etsch River. Today, a new wooden bridge connects the two banks, providing a highlight for cyclists and pedestrians alike.
